How to organize a community yard sale

Pick a date, hours and a rain date; get your HOA's okay or check your city's permit rule; share one sign-up link so neighbors add their own homes; put up flyers and yard signs with a QR code; and tell shoppers. On Millie's, every home is on one live map on sale day, with a route through them all.Updated Nov 4, 2026

Step by step

STEP1

Pick the date, hours and a rain date

Choose the hours every home will keep and a rain date. Most neighborhood and city-wide sales run on a Saturday morning in spring or fall.

STEP2

Get your HOA's okay, or check your city's rule

If your neighborhood has an HOA, yes. You'll give us your HOA contact, and your sale goes public once they confirm. No HOA? You can run it yourself as a resident. Some cities need a permit or limit sales per year. We show your city's rule when you set up your sale. Many cities give one permit for a whole neighborhood sale.

STEP3

Sign up the homes with one link

Share one sign-up link. Neighbors add their own address and what they're selling, each household joins with its own private code, and you see everyone who's in, in one list.

STEP4

Decide whether homes pay to join

Collecting fees from your sellers? We can do that too: households pay your fee in the app plus $2.50 per address, and your fee goes straight to your bank. (Coming soon.)

STEP5

Make your flyers and yard signs

Put the sale's name, date, hours, area and rain date on a flyer, with a QR code. Use our free printable flyer, or book your sale and get your flyer, yard-sign QR code and Facebook post designed for you.

STEP6

Tell shoppers

Post the sale where your neighbors look. On Millie's, shoppers nearby are told your sale is coming the week before and the morning of.

STEP7

Run sale day

Every home is on the map, flyers are up and shoppers are on their way. One tap plans the fastest drive through every home.

STEP8

Look at your results

After sale day, a results dashboard shows how many shoppers came, when they arrived, which streets they shopped and how much they bought. Use it to plan next year and to win a sponsor.
